THURSDAY, December 13, 2018

  • 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM: Supply Set-Up/Inventory (Adults Preferred)
    Volunteers help with: bringing necessary supplies into main hall of the facility and stacking items according to posted signs. Items will then be inventoried.

FRIDAY, December 14, 2018

(You may register for all desired sessions regardless of any overlapping times)

  • Noon - 3:00 PM: Space and Assembly Preparation (Adults Only)
    Volunteers help with: bringing final inventory into main hall, prepping space and items for assembly line. Registration limited to 50.
  • 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM: Kit Item Preparation (All Ages)
    Designed for adults, families, and kids, volunteers help prepare items for the assembly line. Volunteers (especially children) may also make cards for our homeless neighbors to place in each kit. Adults are responsible for supervising kids and youth under their care.
  • 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM: Assembly Set Up/Kit Assembly (Adults Preferred)
    Volunteers will help with: final preparation for assembly, setting up assembly line, kit assembly, loading trucks. Volunteers may also make cards for our homeless neighbors to place in each kit.

SATURDAY, December 15, 2018

(You may register for all desired sessions regardless of any overlapping times)

  • 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM: Survival Kit Assembly Set Up (All Ages)
    Volunteers take positions along the assembly line and receive instructions on the assembly process, replenishing inventory, and moving completed kits to vehicle loading areas.
  • 8:00 – 11:00 AM: Survival Kit Assembly (All Ages)
    Volunteers can choose from a variety tasks for kit assembly including: walking duffel bags along the assembly line, replenishing inventory, moving assembled kits to vehicle loading areas, separating recyclable materials. Volunteers (especially children) also may make cards for our homeless neighbors to place in each kit.
  • 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM: TGS Learning Experience Session #1
    “Our Future Cast Adrift: Children Living on Our Streets” (All Ages)
    Join us for a moving interactive conversation and panel discussion around the tragic plight of our most precious resources – our children. Featuring the subjects of the powerful documentary, American Street Kids, moderated by the film’s producer, Michelle Kaufer, in the Main Church Building.
  • 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM: Survival Kit Assembly (All Ages)
    Volunteers can choose from a variety tasks for kit assembly including: walking duffel bags along the assembly line, replenishing inventory, moving assembled kits to vehicle loading areas, separating recyclable materials.
  • 11:05 AM – 11:50 PM TGS Learning Experience Session #2
    “Compassion on Four Legs. The Powerful Life-Sustaining Love of Homeless Animals(All Ages)
    A riveting and revealing conversation about the thousands of abandoned souls buoyed and supported by the one life that loves them unconditionally. Led by Vince Wong, Michelson Found Animals Foundation in the Main Church Building.
  • 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM: Survival Kit Distribution/Outreach (Noon to 5:00 PM is maximum time - distribute as long as you can) (All Ages)
    For this important part of our mission, volunteers will learn about how to approach and interact with homeless individuals while distributing survival kits.  Volunteers have several options for sharing in the incredibly touching, eye-opening, and memorable experience of distributing survival kits to those in need, including:
    • Agency Visits: Led by TGS representatives*
    • Downtown Distribution: Led by TGS representatives*
    • Individually: Using maps provided by TGS to find areas in need*

*Those driving their own vehicles must tend a brief, mandatory drivers’ meeting at 11:15 in Room 121 (off courtyard) before loading vehicles.

  • 1:00 - 4:00 PM: Assembly Completion/Storage/Clean Up (Please arrive by 1:00 PM) (All Ages)  
    Volunteers help finish the assembly of kits, prepare and load surplus items for storage, separate packaging for recycling and clean up the facility.

SUNDAY, December 16, 2018

  • 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM: Survival Kit Distribution/Outreach (10:30 AM to 3:00 PM is maximum time - distribute as long as you can) (All Ages)
    Volunteers receive instructions, load and distribute survival kits. 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM - Check-in, distribution instructions, and vehicle loading; 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM – Distribution and outreach. 4.5 hours is maximum time - distribute as long as you can.

Registration: Upon arrival, please proceed to the Registration Desk located in the Brentwood Presbyterian church courtyard to sign in.  

Waiver Forms:  All volunteers need to bring the completed and signed waiver form to this event. Youth Waiver Form for volunteers under 18 years of age. Click Here for the adult form.

Parking: Free parking is available in the Comerica Bank parking lot, upper level on Thursday and Friday nights after 6:00 PM, and Saturday. 12001 San Vicente Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90049, off S. Saltair Ave. Please look for signs to direct you. The lot is directly across from Brentwood Presbyterian Church 12000 San Vicente Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90049. Additional parking is also available on Gretna Green Way Friday - Saturday.
