7:30am to 8am : Prep for Assembly & Line Assignments (adults only)
This shift prepares the gymnasium for the kit assembly process. This involves a small group of volunteers to help move boxes, setup stations and prepare for the line of assemblers.

8am to 11am : Survival Kit Assembly (adults and families welcome)
This shift is the busiest of the weekend and involves walking the assembly line and placing items into a bag. Some volunteers will be asked to assist in replenishing inventory at stations along the line. Children may volunteer to create cards for inclusion in the bags.

9am to 10am : Learning Experience I “The True Voice of Skid Row” – “Special Guest – Officer Deon Joseph (all welcome)
For the past ten years, Deon has served as Senior Lead Officer in charge of safety of the people that live on Skid Row. Deon was able to help change the culture of Skid Row along with his fellow officers, via a grassroots approach as opposed to handcuffs. Volunteers may choose to leave their shift (if currently volunteering) to join in a discussion.

11am to 2pm : Survival Kit Assembly (adults and families welcome)
This shift finishes the kit assembly and then transitions to clean up. Because some volunteers leave to distribute Survival Kits beginning at 11am, this shift is important to ensure that we finish assembling the kits.

11am to 4pm : Instructions and Distribution of Survival Kits (adults/families welcome; use discretion for minors)
Volunteers must arrive at the assembly location at the start of the shift (11:00 am) to receive instructions, sign waiver, decide where to go and pick up the completed kits for distribution. Outreach committee members will help volunteers choose whether to visit known areas where homeless live OR they may join a group to visit a pre-arranged facility or shelter. The distribution occurs off-site and duration of service may vary depending upon locations and need. Volunteers often ride with others but we recommend being prepared to provide your own transportation. If you have questions about this please contact jeremy@thegivingspirit.org.

11am to 11:45am : Learning Experience II “Treating the Ill at Ground Zero” (all welcome)
Volunteers may choose to leave their shift (if currently volunteering) to join in a discussion.

1pm to 4pm : Clean-up, recycling, prep items for storage (adults and families welcome)
This shift is critical in ensuring we return the property to its original organization and cleanliness. This often involves breaking down boxes, preparing materials for recycling, sweeping, packing up supplies, and more. This shift can end early depending on the number of volunteers available.
